Increasingly popular in the world of cosmetics – in fact, many of the big beauty brands are bringing out their own mineral ranges – mineral make-up differs from traditional cosmetics in that it contains no additives. It is made from ground-up minerals that can come in any formulation, from foundation, bronzer, blusher, eyeshadow and even lipstick.
Traditionally, there were complaints that mineral make-up could look heavy and caked on but today the products are more refined and lighter and there is a wider range of colouring pigments.
Mineral make-up: Am I suitable?
Mineral make-up should be suitable for everyone as its lack of additives means that it is hypo-allergenic. They contain no petroleum dyes, alcohol, artificial fragrances, fillers or talc; all things that appear in traditional cosmetics.
Mineral make-up is so gentle on the skin that it can often be used post-treatment – be guided by your practitioner though. It’s also good for those suffering from problem skin. Another of the benefits of mineral make-up is that it can offer strong, natural sun protection as it includes titanium dioxide and zinc oxide which work as an effective sun block.
Mineral make-up: What’s the treatment like?
There can be a knack to putting on mineral make-up as its superfine texture means it can be tricky to apply, particularly if you are used to traditional cosmetics. You are advised to swirl your brush in the product, tap away any excess and then brush it on using a circular motion.
Mineral make-up: Are there any risks or side effects?
As mineral make-up is strongly hypo-allergenic there should be no side effects.
Mineral make-up: What will it cost me?
There is as wide a range of costs as there are brands.
